HFC Strong Showing at GBTC XC 5k

2024-09-11 - HFC had a great turnout at the GBTC XC 5K! We fielded full teams for mens and womens open, mens masters, and mens seniors. The women placed 3rd, the masters and seniors men won, and the open men placed 6th. Final USATF-NE scoring is TBD.

2024 Cansweego 5k

2024-07-29 - Great day at the Cansweego 5k. Kicked off the day with the classic 5k run with Rob and Dana men and women winners with new course records! Team Dana also took 1st team prize. Then a delicious lunch by Wargo at the barn, followed by swimming, including the new free-style swimming relay race. Then more barbecue food cooked by Pat Sweeney. Great food, beverages, beer pong, and capped off by the awards ceremony! A great time for everyone!

HFC 5th At The SRR 26x1 relay

2024-06-08 - Great job to Harvey and Sean to pull together a team for the relay with the usual last minute cancelations and substitutions! Great job to the striders who ran and cheered the green to a 5th place finish.

Great Racing At Emmas Run

2024-05-09 - From Harveys email - Kudos to Adam and family for doing the necessary work and investment necessary to pull this off. Grey skies could not dampen the spirits at the latest rendition- from the 400 kids (all wearing #1) dashing and earning beautiful medals to the kids run, adult walk and certified 5 mile course it has something for everyone. As an added benefit it has become a showcase for HFC and friends. The sea of green could not have been more impressive - in the top 10, 9 either were previous club members or current. Congrats to Sophie who set a new club record and Christina C who lowered her own club record. Rob set a new PR, Sean was a couple seconds off his PR and BMAC got a nice pie to the face to celebrate his Ramble PR.

HFC Great Turnout and Great Racing At The Ramble

2024-04-30 - HFC had a great turnout at the James Joyce with teams fielded for mens 40, 50, 60, and womens 40. The 50s (Cak, Neri, TVO) placed 3rd and no results yet for HFC womens or mens 60 teams. TJ led the men with a strong 13th place finish overall (6th in division), and Christina Campbell led the women with a 7th place in her division. Strong HFC performances in the open race with former strider Nick Green taking the win, and Sean Kineavy (5th), Eddie Katz(6th), and Mike DiTocco(7th), Rob Sheehan (12th), and Hallie Armstrong (25th overall, 4th woman)! Plus many other striders out along the course cheering and supporting our runners!

HFC Corner 2024

2024-04-16 - A nice spectator day but way too warm for the runners. Lots of great cheering from HFC Corner throughout the day. Great to see the next generation HFC Striders taking in the Boston Marathon. Most of our striders ran well for the 1st half but the heat took its toll in the 2nd half. As Ed said in the discussion post, each marathon that you cross the finish line is an achievement to be celebrated!

HFC Supported Long Run #2

2024-03-24 - A cold wind but still a great turnout and great long run. DiTocco(22.73 @6:35 pace), Frank(22.12), and Justin(22.23) starting in Hopkinton. Starting in Ashland we have Steve Neri(18), Joe(16), Hallie(12.5 with tempo), Chris Canning(13.75), Dana(10.5), Lily(20), Amber(17), Andy Holmes(4 post-support), MEK(10.5), and Tim(16+). Along the way picked up Matt Lynch(20). Chris joined the run at the 15k mark and paced Lily on her 5 mile tempo/race pace thru the Newton Hills. Many thanks to Ed Groden, Andy Holmes and Chris Canning for driving and course support!

HFC Supported Long Run #1

2024-02-24 - Great day for the first HFC supported long run of the season on the Boston Marathon course. A hearty group of striders ran including Mike DiTocco(21.6 miles at 6:23 pace!), Matt Lynch 20.55, Lily for 19.25 miles, Eileen for 16.3, Joe for 16.1, Amber for 16, David Westenberg for 15+, and Dana for 7.5. Special thanks to Dana for organizing and to Ed and Chris Wargo for shuttle and water/Gatorade support every 3 miles!

HFC Indoor Track Mania!

HFC Victorious at the New England Runner Pub Series

2023-11-29 - HFC was well represented on the podium at the 2023 New England Runner Pub Series Awards Banquet. Congratulations to Open Winners TJ and Nikki Nelson, Brian McCarthy finishing 4th overall, Emily 2nd overall, Eileen senior winner as well as 4th overall, and Mary veteran winner as well as 5th overall! The supporting cast also went home with jackets/sneakers. A great night at Paddys on their 2nd floor room.

HFC Wraps Up XC season at New England XC Championship

Great turnout for HFC at Franklin Park with 34 striders racing
plus many more cheering along the course!   Lots of great individual
and team performances!

All athletes deserve credit for racing where the best runners are,
but I do want to mention a few who stood out both Sunday and 
throughout the xc season. 

Luke was our top open and ran strong throughout the season. 
Similarly, TJ for the masters, JCack for the seniors, Jimmy for 
the Vets and Bobby Ruel as our sole Super Vet.
The men's open featured strong efforts by many and were
rewarded with fourth place overall in the series and in the money. 

For the women in a year when it was often difficult for us to field a team
a half dozen athletes deserve mention -  Christina C, Hallie, Kat, Dana,
Kim and Lily combined to bring home some prize money for the club 
with the women finishing 2d overall in the Grand Prix. 

Also a solo shout out to Taco Mike who ran brilliantly to finish second for
our open men. I also can't help but be proud of our former HFCer and
former hs athlete of mine Nick Green who smoked the course with
a 30 sec+ PR.

Great Fun At The 1st Annual Canswego 5k Festival

2023-07-30 - It was a fun day at Chris Wargo’s beautiful home in Amherst NH! The day began with a 5k race on a course designed (and won by) Chris Canning. We cooled off and had fun in the pool followed by delicious food and beverages and beer pong! Thank you to our host Chris Wargo and his many helpers. A great time was had by all!

HFC Strong Turnout At Dedham Rally 4 Sally

2023-07-04 - Great racing at the Rally 4 Sally 4th of July race in Dedham! About 30 striders total including our course support. TJ 3rd, DiTocco 5th, Holmes 6th, Sean 8th, Canning 9th, Cak 11th, plus Sophie 1st female, and Christina Sweeney, Lee Peterson and Lauren F. Placing in their age groups!

2023-06-03 - Some last minute substitutions and blustery wind couldn’t keep us down today. Solid second place finish at the SRR 26x 1 Mile Relay this morning. Special shout-out to DiTocco, Kat (@kat_vicino), and Hallie (@hta314) for stepping up less than a week after racing half marathons. Huge thanks to @somervilleroadrunners for hosting one of our favorite events of the year.

2023-05-21 - Great weather and great HFC crew at Evans Run 5k for NER Pub Series #3. Great effort by TJ placing 3rd with former strider Nick Green getting the win. Great close 1st&2nd by Nikki and Emily! Some good PRs for many people!

HFC At The Ramble

2023-04-30 - Great racing by the Striders at the James Joyce Ramble! TJ places 5th overall master and Christina Campbell 7th overall female master! The womens 40+ team with Chrstina and help from Eileen and Lee Peterson who both dropped down an age group placed 2nd place! The mens 40+ with TJ and Jason Cak(55+) and Brian McCarthy placed 2nd! Mens 50+were 10th, but the 60+ team with Bob McCormack, Chris Kelly and Jimmy Fallon scored 3rd place! Way to go HFC!

2022 HFC Carol Run

2022-12-22 - After a two year hiatus, 22 HFC Carolers made spirits bright, on the streets of Boston last night, singing, laughing and dashing all the way. See the great highlights by Paul Muldoon on the discussion board. The HFC Carol Run spanned the generations of the club. It was just a great night. I hope all my elves got home safely. To the entire HFC Membership: Merry Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, and Festivus!!

2024-10-02 - Congratulations to Christina for setting the HFC Master Womens Club record in the 10K with her 38:03 at the Lone Gull 10K! She also set the road mile record this summer at the USATF Road Mile at Hopkinton in 5:30!

David Westenberg 4x800 World Record M65

2024-07-29 - Huge wow moment to David Westenberg and his M65 teammates in setting the 4x800 relay record at the USA Track & Field Masters Outdoors Championships in Sacramento! David anchored and ran an impressive 2:29 to catch the leading team!

2024-04-01 - Kudos to David Westenberg at the Indoors USATF Championship! Over a 4 day period, he won the M65 3k in 10:43.4, M65 4x800 relay team age group world record in 10:08.2, 1st place M65 mile in 5:22.8, and 2nd place M65 800 in 2:30.7. Congratulations!!
